Abstract

In this ever demanding need of networking, we see many types of modern network architecture that targets different requirements of different user belonging to various fields. Delay Tolerant Network is an important new modern network architecture that can operate well even in the scenario of high end to end delay or even disruption. The DTN finds its application in interplanetary communications initially but now it finds its application in regular networks and military. Delay Tolerant network architecture uses the basis architecture of network and follows almost the same regulations. In this paper, we present how the Delay Tolerant Network works and what architecture lies beneath the communication. We also provide the message transmission unit called bundles used in DTN for communication between end nodes. Delay Tolerant Network is an ad-hoc network that has no centralized infrastructure so it follows hop to hop delivery of data in the form of Bundles. The structure of transmission unit, architecture and post, in and pre-communication procedure are discussed in detail in this paper.
