Abstract

The present study investigates the effect of silver nitrate in combination with some plant growth regulators on shoot regeneration and rooting of Lantana camara with the aim of improving the micropropagation for this valuable medicinal plant species. Results show that Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with 1.5 mg/L benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 1 mg/L silver nitrate, or 1 mg/L kinetin and 1 mg/L silver nitrate produced highest number of shoots/explant after 4 weeks of culture, 9.5 and 7.8 respectively. Single shoots formed roots on MS medium with indoleacetic acid (IAA) or indolebutyric acid (IBA) in combination with silver nitrate. Highest number of roots/shoots appeared on the medium supplemented with 1 mg/L IBA (or 1 mg/L IAA) and 1 mg/L silver nitrate, including 5.33 or 5.6 primary roots and 19.54 or 14.76 secondary roots. Plantlets grown healthy under in vitro culture condition.
