Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the direct and indirect selection indices in twenty elite mungbean (Vigna radiate L.) genotypes. A field experiment was performed at experimental area of Pulses Research Institute, Faisalabad, Pakistan in the spring season of 2020. Data were subjected to association analysis (path and correlation analysis) for partitioning of morpho-yield traits. Path coefficient analysis employed for the purpose revealed that the pods per plant (NPP) revealed the highest direct influence on grain yield (0.85) followed by pods per plant (0.94) and 100 grain weight (0.83). Likewise, correlation coefficient analysis indicated that highly significant association was showed by the no of pods per plant (0.71) and grain yield (0.52). It is evident that both the path coefficient analysis and correlation showed that grain yield is strongly associated with 100 grain weight and pods per plant and significant positive direct impact on grain yield. Therefore, 100 grain weight and pods per plant having significant contribution in determination of final grain yield may be considered while making an effective selection criteria for genetic improvement in mungbean.
