THYROID DISORDER IN PREGNANCY AND ITS RELATION TO PREGNANCY OUTCOME

A prospective analytical study was conducted with 1000 patients to assess the prevalence of thyroid disorders in pregnant women and obstetric conditions among all patients suffering from thyroid disorders. This study seeks to recognize the occurrence of thyroid abnormalities in pregnant women visiting to obstetrics and gynaecology department of Tertiary care hospital. The patients in all the groups were in the normal range of BMI. It was observed that obese women were more prone to hypothyroidism than normal weight women. Patients in overt hypothyroid group had significantly higher BMI. Thyroid dysfunction is a condition that should be treated aggressively that affects a significant number of women during pregnancy associated with adverse maternal outcome.
