Abstract

The main objective of this research is to synthesize and characterize asbestos free carbon nanotubes (CNT) reinforced composite brake liner material which provides excellent tribological properties as that of conventional break liners. In order to incorporate anti friction and wear properties fillers, lubricants, binders, abrasives were added into the matrix of polymeric resins. The friction and wear properties of the composites were measured using computeriserd wear testing machine. The carbon nanotubes reinforced brake liner showed enhanced wear and friction properties in comparision with the conventional brake liners. Characterization of the breakliners was carriedout by EDX, SEM and XRD, which indicates the uniform dispersion of carbon nano tubes in the marix. Thermogravimetric analysis of the brekliners showed the enhanced themal stability of CNT reinforeced composites.
