Abstract

The cesarean section is a surgical procedure to remove the fetus; there are several indications that merit this surgical process, which involves a risk to the mother and the fetus; a constant concern is that in many private and public hospitals the percentage of cesarean sections suggested by the WHO is far exceeded. For our study population, 81% of pregnant women attending the care underwent a cesarean section, which exceeds the allowed value. It is necessary to evaluate the determinants of this decisión-making process. The Robson classification suggested by the WHO at the beginning of 2015 classifies each cesarean section into distinct groups that allow the quality of maternal and infant care to be evaluated. From the universe of 107 cases, a simple random sampling was performed with a confidence percentage of 95% and an error of 0.05%, resulting in 84 cases. The average age of the patients was 28 years, 78% had no associated comorbidities and the average age of sexual activity was 20 years, with a predominance of those who had had at least two sexual partners. The group of pregnancies has a predominant two previous pregnancies, most of them attended delivery and 53% are primigravidae; In previous cesarean sections, excluding primigravidae, 50% have had at least one previous cesarean section, although intergestational periods predominate (67% older than 3 years). Of the total number of cases, 81% are classified as elective cesarean section; 100% have an APGAR greater than 7 and a SILVERMAN less than 3. The groups that contribute to the Robson scale are patients with a single pregnancy, cephalic presentation with more than 37 weeks of gestation, and a previous cesarean section, followed by the group with two previous cesarean sections (14%).
