Abstract

This chapter aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on foot care knowledge among diabetes mellitus patients at selected health centers. Diabetic foot is one of the most prevalent, costly, and severe consequences of diabetes. Diabetic foot can result in an important economic, social, and public health burden; especially in low-income communities.

In this work, a one-group pre- and post-test design using a quasi-experimental research methodology was used. The non-probability convenient sampling method was used to choose 80 samples in total. Following the pretest, the educational Intervention was explained to the group.

The results showed that the mean pretest score for foot care before the test was 5.21 and climbed to 9.65 after the post-test. The standard deviation in the pre-test was 2.34 which after the post-test increased to 3.14. The obtained “t” value of 4.765 was statistically highly significant p<0.05. There was a strong relationship discovered between education, status, income, knowledge about a diabetic foot, and source of information. The study concluded that the educational intervention used by the researcher was successful in improving foot care knowledge among diabetes mellitus patients'.
